Colby Emergency Response, more commonly know as CER, is a student -organized and run club which provides the campus with a 24-hour on-call team of trained Emergency Medical Technicians. All members are volunteers and so far this year the roster includes over 40 people.
Hailing from Wrentham, Mass., Jessica Coliflores is a senior with an independent administrative science major and religious studies minor. Although she is living off-campus this school year, she is known as a visible and well-involved presence on campus. A former Class Representative, Coliflores now serves as the Parliamentarian of the Presidents' Council.
When asked to describe Carole Levine, merchandising clerk at the Colby Bookstore, friends, customers and employees alike had the same two-word answer: "resident mother." Levine has worked in the Bookstore since Nov. 2000, and with her friendly smile and ability to remember the name of almost every student on campus, she has become a household name herself.
Last Thursday, Oct. 4, students had the opportunity to learn more about the often-misunderstood practice of self-injury at Health Service's screening of "Cut." Director and producer Wendy Schneider presented a unique lens through which to view cutting, emphasizing the emotional rather than the physical aspect of the act.
Aardvark Alley is a business with a cause. During a hospitality exchange in Kenya in January 2005, founder Grace Von Tobel, also a Diamond Faculty Secretary at the College, was "taken by her conversations with AIDS widows and orphans." Charities and fundraising had little impact on the never-ending cycle of poverty in Kenya, so Von Tobel initiated Aardvark Alley, a for-profit business designed to provide unique products to its customers while offering an ongoing source of income to its producers.
