She can WHAT: "Female Orgasm" enlightens Page

"We learned about fallopian tubes," Miller deadpanned. "As soon as I said the words Fallopian tubes," he told male students when he and Solot split the audience into single-sex groups, "you could see the diagram in your heads." Widespread chuckles confirmed this silly truth. Many end up "learning" other things from porn, as the all-male group discussed. But "as a source of information, it could get you way off course."

He advised "communication throughout" sex to "fine-tune your technique," and "being incredibly patient" since the average woman takes twenty minutes to orgasm (the average man: between two and five); stressed that women have different desires and expectations, and different levels of physical sensitivity in different places; and added that to his surprise, most women polled about their sex lives "said they wish guys made more noise" to signal their own enjoyment.

When we rejoined the women, Solot and Miller recapped their sessions. The women had concluded that contributors to successful orgasms include lots of time, erotic stories, a space's mood, foreplay, ever-reliable chocolate, and statistically, sobriety. Miller reiterated that "some of the things in porn absolutely require a conversation!" earning laughs.

The next major topic was the oft-ignored "little golden nugget" of female anatomy: the clitoris.

"Can you imagine," Solot asked, "if there were pictures of male anatomy and there was no penis there?" This, she said, is equivalent to the clitoris' absence in many female anatomy diagrams. Aided by their slideshow, the duo discussed the critical role of the clitoris in most women's orgasms. Because intercourse alone often doesn't involve it (oral sex is the statistical favorite for clitoral stimulation), Solot advised not being committed to the "hands-free" orgasm and suggested women use their hand, their partner's, or a vibrator for additional clitoral stimulation if their goal is to climax during intercourse. She joked that given the twenty-minute average for climax, some women also prefer vibrators for masturbation, since otherwise "we're talking like carpal tunnel syndrome."
