Bob Diamond '73, president of Barclays PLC and CEO of investment banking and investment management, has been a member of the Board of Trustees since 1993. This coming may, he will replace Joe Boulos as chairman of the Board. Diamond has also served on two regional campaign committees and the President's Advisory Committee. "I am really looking forward to working with Bob, he is a dynamic leader and a very capable person. I know he will be an excellent chair," President William "Bro" Adams said.
Do you have any comments on the incidents that occurred last weekend and the College's response, either as a member of the Board or as the parent of a current student?
My feelings as a parent and as a trustee are those of concern. Bro has been going out of his way to make sure that he is in communication with parents, students and faculty. This is a very difficult time for Colby. the Board of Trustees, led by Joe Boulos, and the administration led by Bro Adams. My feelings on this issue are very similar to those of the Board of Trustees, this is a very serious issue and a time for community to unite and get all of the information out in the open so that we can work together to understand what happened. We can't change what happened but we can deal with this issue in an open, honest and transparent way. The important thing is that we deal with the lesson learned; I've been very pleased that no one is turning their back on this issue.
What aspect of becoming the chairman of the Board of Trustees excites you the most?
You know, I still have to pinch myself; I can't believe that I'm this lucky. I've been on the Board for over a decade while living in London and Japan but the travel has never bothered me because I've always enjoyed being part of Colby. I loved my time here and I have developed and kept strong friendships as a student and as a trustee. Becoming chairman is a challenge, a privilege and an honor and it is both thrilling and daunting.
In your opinion, what is the College's most pressing issue right now?
